Help us raise $5000 towards the construction of a new high school that Awra Amba is currently building. The school will include grades 9 - 10, the equivalent of GCSE level in the UK. After this grade, students in Ethiopia are able to continue their studies either at vocational college or at University.
This self-initiated school building project will offer education to children beyond Awra Amba, reaching out to as many as 2000 students from many nearby communities. Although Awra Amba have come a long way in making their dream a reality, the project is now facing financial challenges where it needs our help.

THE IMPACT
When you support Awra Amba’s self-initiated school building project, you change the lives of hundreds of kids' futures. You give them an opportunity for the kind of education that opens doors to a better life. The school building project is at the epicentre of the community’s development goals.
By building this high school, Awra Amba hopes to achieve the following:
- To produce creative and entrepreneurial citizens.
- Building a society of well-being, good behaviour, honesty and a sustainable lifestyle.
- Fight youth unemployment in Ethiopia.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?
The building of the school is work in progress. The foundations are laid already and the community has finished one of the classrooms with money that they have borrowed and saved up. They now need to finish the other class rooms and to build a laboratory and a library. These are essential in order for the Ethiopian Goverment to approve the high school. If approved, the Government will provide qualified teachers from outside, who will ensure a high academic level. Whatever amount of money is raised it will go directly to the community. It will help them take this project one step further. In return we offer supporters different perks, ranging from the DVD of the film 'Awra Amba - Utopia in Ethiopia' to beautiful textiles, handwoven by the community.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
Spread the word. Spread the word online on your preferred social networks, tell your friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours, local cafe-keepers, pub landlords, hairdressers and anyone who you regularly chat to. Ask them to match your donation.
Organise a fundraising lunch – why not get your whole workplace or community involved with fundraising? We will provide you with presentation materials, including a set of slides from the village, and posters to print and put up in the office. Then just get your colleagues together at lunchtime for 30 minutes and fundraise together! By donating a bigger amount to the school, you are also eligible for bigger, better perks!
Organise a fundraising screening – for the ambitious ones amongst you, we recommend you organise a fundraising screening of the film Awra Amba – Utopia in Ethiopia. Find a room with a projector or go to your local church or community centre, ask if you can use their premises for a good cause. Contact us to purchase or rent a screening copy of the film and advertise for the screening in your community with our posters. On special request one of us will also do our best to connect to your screening via skype.
